Welcome

Ok something unexpected happened today. We got a Refrigerator and a Washing machine from the company. well it isn't normally unexpected. I mean when you're at a company accomodation you do expect that the company will provide the "amenities" that come with it. well to put a long story short we did finally get the appliances today. Actually it was a well thought out strategy exectued well by one of the new roomies (name withheld for no reason).

The thing about washing machines and fridges are this. If you're in a veggie household, dont go in for a fridge with a huge freezer. I mean firstly you've got the extra loads of electrons the thing starts sucking in (aka big electricity bill) and secondly that space is never used.

Washing machines are pretty cool and they do a better job if you configure it right. I had that experice back at IIM L. We had 4 washing machines within the H 11, 12 complex (hostel complex). Everyone just dumped the clothes in and took them out after a "regular" wash. But these things are capable of far more. Its like hiring a French chef and telling him to make maggie all day. I mean comeon !! Read the manual!! Ok, so im off to do that and start using these appliances. Oh yeah, Rediff does take great care of its boys, you gotta just make yourself heard high up :)

Well today me and Andy went for The Dark Knight. First day and all. Its a great movie. The same Batman but he's got some really cool gadgets. Totally rocking idea of how to find anyone on this planet. The movie actually looks like it was two small movies put together. At the intermission, you're left wondering if the movie is over or there's some action still coming up. Its quite good cause you see him kick ass twice. Well the sad part though is that they're trying to re-create the story of how all the villains came up. I mean we've seen that over and over again. Cant they put something new out this time.

Anyway, apart from that the gadgets are great as usual, and his metallic suit is also cool. Anyway this time its quite clear that they've chosen NY as Gotham city. I mean comeon people, cant you use some secret hideaways. Why does everyone have to shoot movies in the same spots ... Well its worth a watch. Im off to check some mobile wallpapers.

The gang, well not the whole gang, just Katra, Suchai, Adi and me went for this new movie, The Happening. Well in my view the "idea" is new, but really the whole movie centered around such a simple idea felt weak. Also, i dont know of M. Night Shyamalan. I was surprised to find Mark Wahlberg taking up the central role. There were some surprises i noticed early on.

1. What is Night Shyamalan trying to do?
Is he trying to move away from the "though provoking" smart thrillers to the lame i-will-scare-you thrillers? Wonder if he is trying to follow the footsteps of Albert Hitchcock. Still, Albert Hitchcock had depth in his movies, something i dont see in Night Shyamalan's movies. There's no real thriller movies coming out of the same genre these days. Maybe Night is trying to be right there.

2. Why is Mark Wahlburg shifting to this genre so early?
I mean he's a great actor, there's no doubt about that. But there's just no one else who can do what he does and thats great innocent guy kicking ass! Why is he trying to play the role of a confused guy running around scared like nuts. I dont think this was his kinda movie.

Overall it is a refreshing change from the normal movies Hollywood gives you. Something nice to talk about with friends and think about.

Well what can i say, its a time-pass movie. I wouldnt rate it at 1 start out of five, but still, id say leave your thoughts at home. There were some funny moments here and there. Everyone seems to have a new twist to love and these guys well seem to think that everyone finds a partner. The second half was entertaining i must say. I was wondering if we should leave during the interval, but we decided to stay anyway.

These days the ticket prices are so high, you definitely dont want to leave mid way. If you do plan to check out this movie, it has some sense right at the end. I think most critics would have written off the movie by the time they reached this part and were already planning on how to word their stories. Too bad. Should have probably waited till the end of the movie. All said and done, i guess you'll like the movie if you really read between the lines.

There is some truth to each character's decisions. That came as a subtle but strong undertone. And its quite true, people do act crazy at times but they've got their reasons. Well its late and im off to bed, with some thoughts on my mind. Enjoy the movie.

This week has been busy trying to get some WC games going. I tried my hand at some good old heroes. Skg and I were supposed to have a few games but it always ends up as me waiting for him to finish a game or the other way around. In Bangalore i had the awful problem of the game lagging arbitly. Throughout the whole game, it kept lagging. Got endlessly abused by the gamers. Sheesh! But i think it was Apple's wifi which was causing the problem. There seems to be something wrong with Apple's wifi if two computers are connected to it. I think it allocates bandwidth in a serial fashion or something, not when a client requests for some bandwidth. Wonder if other routers do that.

This time i have taken a week long vacation, i think the last time i did that was in december. I started off to Shimoga - took a flight to Hubli, then a bus ride to Harihar, and another bus ride from there to Shimoga. I was surprised at the malls that are coming up at Hubli. Saw a Big Bazaar store there as well. Is he trying to pull the same strategy that Walmart did? The bus rides too were pleasantly surprising. The conductors use a hand-held printer to print tickets instead of the usual pre-printed tickets we're used to. Wonder if it is faster or more efficient than before. Maybe its just to make sure that accurate accounting is maintained.

When i landed in Shimoga it was wonderful! The weather is just fantastic here, a little chilly with little drops of rain always drizzling down, not too much to keep you off the road, but enough to remind you that its about to rain. Today i started the day with four masala dosas, yep .. four. Most amazing home made dosas. Im off to Bangalore on Tuesday night. Will try to add pictures from there.
